New Fiction in Bird’s Thumb

My story, “Chorionic Villus Sampling with the Virgin Mary,” is now up at Bird’s Thumb. I’m thrilled to share it with you.

This work received an honorable mention in the New Millennium Writings Competition in Fiction in November 2015.

It is dedicated to Lana Ferguson, the Director of Children’s Services/Assistant Director of the Guilford Free Library and mother of three, who died last year.

lanaThe first question Lana always asked me any time we were together was not “How are you?” or “How are the kids?” Instead it was: “Tell me about your writing. How’s it going?” With her patient librarian voice, she was like a literary fairy godmother. Over the years, she not only encouraged me to keep writing, but she also fed me endless story ideas.
